- (Note: This is a smaller, text-only version of the offer for the
- Macintosh Hypercard InfoStack#1 - Star Trek, The Next Generation.
- The complete version includes screen shots from the stack and is
- close to 100K in size.)

-
- "I know what Star Trek is, what's an InfoStack?"
-
- An InfoStack is a collection of information about a subject, arranged in a
- manner that increases the enjoyment of researching a subject through
- the use of animation, sound, and creative manipulation of information.
- An online magazine, it's a natural use of Hypercard and Hypertext.
-
- InfoStack #1 is actually the latest and best version of the acclaimed
- Star Trek - The Next Generation Hypercard stack. This document will
- give you a glance at the InfoStack, hopefully getting you excited about it,
- and then tell you how to get your copy.
-
- This version is complete. It contains synopses for the entire first
- season of shows, sounds (at least one from each show), a revised and
- improved interface, and best of all, the astonishing Star Trek on line
- encyclopedia! Of course, it comes at a price - size. The stack (actually
- two stacks) takes up two 800K disks!
-

-
- The Main Menu allows you to jump about the stack, just like any well
- designed Hypercard document. It also gives you access to complete help
- for the controls (the ? Icon).
-
- The sections are:
-
- • Star Trek Theme - Play the opening theme and animation,
- automatically done when the stack is opened.
- • Crew Descriptions - Short descriptions of the bridge crew.
- • Countdown Clock - Originally used to tell exactly how much time
- remained until the premiere of the show. Now tells exactly how long
- it's been since that date.
- • Bridge Map - Identifies each area of the Enterprise's bridge.
- • Pictures and Sounds - Displays portraits of the crew plays a digitized
- sample of their voice.
- • Sound Preferences - Lets you set the play volume on your Macintosh.
- • The Ferengi - Up close view of this unusual race. Some information on
- their background and interaction with the Federation.
- • Episode Descriptions - Synopses of the 26 first season episodes, and
- the exhaustive Star Trek Encyclopedia.
- • Credits - Authors notes and additional operation hints.
-
- The Episode Descriptions Menu gives you access to all twenty six
- shows, and the Star Trek Encyclopedia. (Trivia: Paramount counts
- Encounter at Farpoint as two shows.)
-
- Clicking on a show title moves you directly to that synopsis. The icons
- at the bottom of the screen let you flip through the cards automatically,
- search for text, play the sound for that card, override sound all together,
- return to the Main Menu, and move through the cards one at a time.
-
-

-
- Each Synopsis card displays the show's title and the stardate.
- (Actually, one of the shows, Symbiosis, didn't have a stardate. Ah
- well.) Beneath that is the text of the synopsis, usually two or three
- pages long, in a scrolling display. The Icons at the bottom of the screen
- have changed subtly. The left most replaces the automated "display all
- cards" icon, and returns to the list of shows. There are two additional
- icons, Display/Hide Your Notes, and the Locked/Unlocked Icon.
-
- Clicking the Display/Hide Your Notes icon, alternates the cards text
- between the synopsis and an area for your own notes on the show. This
- allows you to personalize the stack with your own observations.
-
- Initially the notes area contains the writer/director and actors names,
- but this can be changed. The Locked/Unlocked Icon lets you lock or
- unlock the synopsis or your notes fields so that you can edit the text.
- Locked, these areas are protected from accidental changes.
-
- When you flip to a new synopsis card, you'll hear a sound from that show.
- The sound for Encounter at Farpoint is Q saying "Answer to the charge
- of being a greviously savage race!"
-

-
- The Star Trek Encyclopedia gives you unbelievable access to the
- Characters, Locations, Starships, and much more! The Other entry also
- includes a list of the musical composers for each show. What more can
- we say. It's complete!
-
